Fartemus Dingleberry

I haven't had much time recently to devote to the blog. I should probably change the name to Monthly Weird or Whenever I Get The Chance To Mess Around Weird but ultimately, I don't think anyone is going to mind that my post aren't consistent.

Anyway, I recently did find the time to fart around a bit and came across a YouTube channel named Fartemus Dingleberry. The channel has a simple, yet weird theme; take various short videos and edit them so that a woman featured in the video is headless. Generally, the missing head is either being held by the headless body or somewhere nearby. Many of the videos just kind of leave you impression that this guy probably just has some weird fetish but this video of Maria Menounos on Conan O'Brien got a chuckle out of me.

How to catch a giant snake

I'm sure you've seen videos of people using a fishing method called "noodling" where they swim around a lake looking for a hole, stick their arm in as bait and pullout large catfish. Well, this seems to be a version of that but instead of fish, these guys are hunting giant snakes.

Goats in Trees

There's a peculiar video making it's way through social media of about a dozen or so goats just hanging out...in a tree.

The perplexing video was filmed in Morocco by Michael Chinnici, a photographer at Moroccan photo tours.

The goats are drawn to fruit of the Argan tree which ripens each year in June. The animals are skilled climbers and are aided by their cloven feet. Each foot has two toes which can spread out, providing balance while the soles of their feet are soft helping to grip the branch.

Snail and Cats

Came across this strange video of a snail and cat curiously checking each other out.

As a testament to the power of cute cat videos, it has received over 200,000 views in the 6 days since it was posted. The mysterious uploader's name is かご猫 (Basket cat in englisth) and literally has around a thousand videos of cats in different settings, outfits, in baskets, etc. The most popular involve balancing things on the seemingly indifferent felines. Here are a few to help pass the time:

Kyūkyoku!! Hentai Kamen

According to Wikipedia, Kyūkyoku!! Hentai Kamen ("Ultimate!! Pervert Mask") is a comedy manga series that tells the tale of a young martial artist who transforms into a bizarre hero of justice by wearing a pair of panties on his head. The manga was published in Weekly Shōnen Jump between 1992 to 1993 then adapted into a live action film in 2013.

Kyōsuke Shikijō is a high school student skilled in kenpō, but incompetent with girls to the point that his interaction with them gets him into painful situations. One day he saves a girl named Aiko Himeno from bullies and is immediately smitten with her. When she is taken hostage by a group of criminals during a bank robbery, Kyōsuke is forced to take a disguise to save her without being recognized by the crooks after an earlier incident where he reveals himself on a megaphone. When he accidentally puts a pair of panties over his head instead of a normal mask he undergoes a transformation: due to the perverted genetics of his mother (a S&M worker), he is able to awaken the full potential of his body. Running out wearing nothing but the panties on his head and underpants covering his loins, Kyōsuke, now christening his masked self Hentai Kamen, uses his power and perversion to defeat the criminals and save Aiko.

Currently making the rounds on social media:

Vitas is the stage name of Russian singer, songwriter Vitaliy Vladasovich Grachov. It seems he is a pretty successful performer in Russia, China and other Asian countries. The song in the above video was from his 2001 debut Philosophy of Miracle and is titled The 7th Element.

ISIS Suicide Bomber's Car Hits Roadside Bomb and Detonates in Midair

According to the Daily Mail, the video depicts an ISIS suicide bomber attempting to launch an attack on Kurdish forces near Kirkuk in northern Iraq. As the car approaches, it appears to run over a roadside bomb, launching it about 100ft into the air where it then detonates, likely due to the explosives in the vehicle.

Man Who Lives Near Airport Painted "Welcome to Cleveland" on His Roof, Lives in Milwaukee

Epic prankster Mark Gubin has been confusing airline passengers for nearly four decades now. He first got the idea when having lunch with his assistant on the roof of his apartment. She noticed a lot of low flying planes getting to land at the airport and mentioned it would be nice to make a sign that welcomed them to Milwaukee. Guban ran with the idea giving it the major twist of welcoming passengers to Cleveland instead.

The sign became famous after it was first painted back in 1978 but for whatever reason it has recently been rediscovered and spread throughout the internet.

Snuff Puppets: Everybody

Warning: not for sensitive viewers.

Everybody is an interactive installation from the Australian puppet theater company Snuff Puppets. It is the largest human puppet on the planet with detachable and interactive body parts and organs.

According to their website, Snuff Puppets are "always a nuisance – poking fun, rebelling, kicking over the traces, infiltrating the mainstream and wielding its information against it, being irreverent, naughty, a goad; reflecting power/society disrespectfully, being a bull in the china shop on purpose, breaking taboos wherever we shall find them, being rude, vulgar, violent, sexy". I believe this is an accurate description as watching the above video seems to generally illicit a WTF response from viewers. It is certain they do a splendid job of moving the viewer out of the ordinary and into bizarre dream like world. For this I applaud them. But I don't think I'm alone in finding it a bit unsettling to see children at the performance. Call me a prude if you'd like but I don't think I'll be taking my daughter to an art show which includes a giant naked puppet having it's head smashed by a brick, giving birth, having it's breast detach and spray the audience with what is supposed to be milk, having it's vagina detach, morph into a penis and then urinate on the audience. I don't know. Guess I'm weird like that.

The musical mystery of Chainmale

There's surprisingly little information on the enigmatic artist known as Chainmale. Pretty much everything I could find came from a Facebook fan page which had around twenty posts and hasn't had any activity in about a year.

In a nutshell, sometime in the mid 80's Chainmale, aka Michael Freeland, released an album with the Australian record label Regular Records. Given his peculiar style and unique musical approach it isn't all that surprising he wasn't able to achieve mainstream success. It seems these videos are the only remains of Chainmale's electro-punk days, but they certainly are gems.

Sparky, where is Satan?

I'm not sure how to interpret this. Is it that Sparky hates Satan so much that mentioning his name sends him into a rage or is it that when she asks "where's Satan" he shows up by possessing the little dog?

Woman sets car on fire after being denied a cigarette

In Israel, security camera footage at a gas station shows a woman approaching a man fueling his car and asking him for a cigarette. The man gives some sort of a quick refusal then turns back to face the pump. The woman begins to walk away but apparently felt being denied a cigarette required some severe retribution, so she walks back to the man and uses a lighter to set fire to the gas nozzle. The man quickly pulls the nozzle away as the area in engulfed is flames.

Implants

In the world of body modification, implants are artificial objects which are surgically inserted into the body usually for decorative purposes. Implants may be either subdermal or transdermal.

Subdermal refers to implants which are completely beneath the skin leaving a sculptural change to the appearance of the body. The procedure involves making an incision next to the area the implant is to be placed. A dermal elevator is used to create a pocket in which the implant (typically made of silicone) is inserted. Once in place, the incision is stitched up and given time to heal.

Transdermal refers to implants which are placed partially below and partially above the skin. Like the subdermal implant, the procedure involves making an incision near the area the implant is to be located. A pocket is opened using a dermal elevator and a hole is made. The implant is then inserted so that the decorative part passes through the hole and the base stays under the skin.

Joe Aylward's Metal Mohawk

Body modification artist Steve Haworth is credited as having invented and popularized both subdermal and transdermal implants. Haworth grew up around the medical industry, his father owning a surgical instrument manufacturing company. Continuing in the family business, Haworth started his own company called Haworth Med Tech (later called Haworth Tech Company) in the late 1980's. Shortly after he opened a chain of piercing studios called HTC peircing studios.

In the mid 1990's Howarth began experimenting with and creating the first implants used for adornment purposes, initially using surgical steel then later teflon and carved silicone.  He performed his first subdermal modification in 1994 on a New Zealand woman giving her an under the skin beaded bracelet around her wrist. In 1996 he performed the first transdermal implant called the "Metal Mohawk".

I don't know about you but I think if I gave my kid a Baby Laugh-A-Lot she would probably just cry a lot. It's hard to believe that the execs at Remco toys couldn't see how creepy this thing was.

Don't Hug Me I'm Scared

Don't Hug Me I'm Scared is a 2011 short film produced by THIS IS IT Collective and directed by Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling. The film is a parody of children's television shows which starts out like the typical kids show but becomes progressively darker. The juxtaposition of innocent looking characters singing a happy sounding tune with the embedded disturbing imagery leaves viewers with a WTF? feeling at the end.

Becky & Joe have released two sequels called Don't Hug Me I'm Scared II which deals with the concept of time and Don't Hug Me I'm Scared III which looks at the concept of Love. Both can be seen on their YouTube page here.

Interior Semiotics: Natacha Stolz

The following performance, titled Interior Semiotics, took place on March 27th, 2010 at an apartment gallery event in West Town, Chicago called FOREVER (21). Artist Natacha Stolz begins by awkwardly struggling to open a can of SpaghettiOs with a manual can opener. Finally succeeding in her task, she proceeds to pour its contents into a pot (which some believe has dirt in it), adds water, then mixes it all together with her hand while reciting some nihilistic poem about everything being shit.

It's at this point things get freaky. Stolz begins to recite the poem backwards in monosyllabic form while rubbing the contents of the pot onto her chest. She then cuts her pants at the crotch, inserts her dirty SpaghettiO covered fingers into her vagina and then either urinates or expels some dark liquid she put inside her before the show, into the empty can below. Stolz ends the performance by taking off her shirt and using it to wipe up the mess.

I'm guessing that every year, somewhere around the country, some art student performs an equally shocking yet ultimately unimportant work as they leave the fold of the alternate universe known as the university. What's different about this one is that a video of the performance was taken and shortly after shared on 4chan. Within 48 hours the video had over 200,000 views. From there it went viral after being picked up by Buzzfeed, Reddit, I am Bored and others.

Though the performance received a great many WTF reactions, many commentators also focused on ridiculing the seemingly pretentious hipster crowd gleefully applauding what they believed to be a respectful bit of performance art. Is the criticism warranted? I'll leave it for you to decide.

Jan Terri

There is a certain enigmatic quality to Jan Terri's music videos. Judged by any standard metrics, they are certainly awful. The lyrics are terrible, the camera work is shabby, and Terri pretty much has no screen presence. They definitely fall within the "It's so bad, it's good" category. Upon my first viewing I succumbed to a head shaking, surreal state of confusion as I tried to understand how and why these things ever got made.

Yet, like many of the other bad music videos I've posted, they seem to have a way of getting stuck in your head. Perhaps it's an appreciation for the sincere, yet naive effort that was put into their creation. Terri is a woman with a dream and though the results of her efforts may not be so great, you've got to give her credit for trying. Then again, maybe the terrible lyrics are actually what make the songs so catchy. It's as if their oddness creates this little replay loop in your head and the next thing you know you're catching yourself singing "I don't wanna lose you tonight" while doing the laundry.

Whatever the case may be, if you haven't come across these videos yet, take a moment to enjoy the work of the now legendary Jan Terri. You'll be glad you did.

Crispin Glover on Letterman

Let's take a trip back in time. The year is 1987. The place, Late Night with David Letterman. David's guest tonight is a young Crispin Glover. Glover, still bathing in the limelight after the success of Back to the Future in which he played the part of George McFly is supposed to be promoting his new movie River's Edge. Let's take a moment to enjoy a little late night history.

It's hard to say how much of what went on that night was drug induced, Glover being the weird guy that he is or Glover purposely playing out a role in an attempt to pick up the mantle of Andy Kaufman. Perhaps it was a combination of all three. In the end, it seems likely it was more of an artistic stunt and promotional piece for his movie Rubin and Ed, which had been in development for sometime and eventually released in 1991. In the film, Glover plays the part of a strange, socially inept young man named Rubin Farr, who more than resembles the Crispin Glover that appeared that night on the Late Show.

Whatever the truth is, the combination of Glover's antics and Letterman's discomfort with the whole thing certainly makes it one for the late night t.v. history books.

Locked in an unlocked closet

USA Today: Pair spent two days 'locked' in (unlocked) closet
A Florida couple spent two days in what they believed was a locked closet.

John Arwood, 31, and Amber Campbell, 25 stated that they had hid in the janitor's closet at Daytona State College to escape unidentified assailants. Once in the closet, they believed they had locked themselves inside. After waiting two days, the desperate pair called 911 for help. After police arrived and "freed" the couple, an officer checked the door to see if it would lock from the inside and found it had been unlocked the whole time.

Police said they found human feces and scouring pads which are sometimes used to smoke crack but no drugs were found.

Both were charged with trespassing and Campbell was also charged with violating probation.

Gate Rage

The video footage was taken from a security camera in the parking garage under the Höfðatorg Tower in Iceland. The incident happened more than 3 years ago according to Albert Ómar Guðbrandsson, the manager of the garage. "We've been asked countless times to publish the video, and decided to do so now after legal counseling. We were reluctant to publish it sooner, but we felt that this was the kind of video that the public should be allowed to see."

Liu Fei: Shoving Snakes Up Your Nose

Chinese entertainer Liu Fei has a unique way of earning a living. For the past 30 years he has performed the stunt of shoving snakes up his nose and out through his mouth. When asked if he has ever had any complications while doing the routine, he said that the most serious incident was when he accidentally swallowed one of the snakes.
